Hello, my name is Sean Nelson and I write the Social Media Sonar blog
- What is your area of expertise in social media and/or marketing.
For the last two years my blogs focus has been on helping people more effectively utilize LinkedIn. Since June I've been starting to expand the conversation to include additional social media/networking tools.
How long have you been practicing?
I started writing my blog in January 2008 to share what I was learning in regards to using LinkedIn. Much of this focussed on how I was using LinkedIn to drive business for my insurance business.
- What is your best online accomplishments in blogging?
When I started writing the blog I was an insurance broker helping people make smarter health insurance decisions. Thanks to the exposure from the blog I am now helping companies develop and implement social media strategies. While the knowledge is definitely important, its the blog that generated the exposure that led to readers engaging me to help them leverage social media.
- How did you achieve your best result? Explain.
Since my blog has primarily been about using LinkedIn, I use LinkedIn Groups to drive the majority of traffic. The posts that seem to drive the most response are those that include a list reference in the headline..."The Top 5 Mistakes on LinkedIn", "The 6 LinkedIn Tools You May Not Know", etc.
I've made sure to join groups on LinkedIn that both offer the size and interest to drive views and traffic to the blog. I also review the responses and try to replace the bottom 10 groups in terms of response every 6 months.
- What topics would you be writing about for the contest?
For the contest I will write about how people can utilize LinkedIn to build a community of people, communicate their message, engage in conversations, and monetize their efforts.
- Links to past blogs or content and a personal profile.

My name is Michael Grosheim. I am the Chief Executive Officer of Harrison-Pierce and freelance blogger.
My expertise in social media and marketing includes a daily blog on Personal Finance, Foreclosure and Bankruptcy prevention and Retirement; and as a writer on Technorati, as well as additional less-known sites. Although I only recently began writing as a part of my daily routine, I have used social media for advertising/marketing purposes for over 4 years.
In such a competitive market, my greatest accomplishment is simply having readers. It may not seem like a huge accomplishment, but it surely makes the time and effort worthwhile. Achieving this result was only through my dedicated effort to write everywhere my articles/blog were relevant in order to engage new readers.
In general, and for this contest, my articles are geared towards personal finance issues that plague ever American (excluding the wealthiest 1%). As unemployment continnues to rise, more and more people will experience financial hardship; and rather than provide broad articles on finance, I provide specific information on the do's and don'ts of loss mitigation and debt settlement.
For a sample of my writing style, please visit blog.harrison-pierce.com. Once again, thank you for the opportunity of evaluation.

Hi,
My area of expertise is social media/marketing is is global networking. I have a website that I not only use as an interactive extension of my resume, but also as a forum for topics of a global nature. And although I've only been involved in social media for about a year, I use my connections on LinkedIn and Twitter to exchange information, help others promote themselves, obtain employment (which I was successful at), and to build lasting relationships with people worldwide.
My best accomplishment(s)in blogging is that I was published twice on my knowledge of social media. Links to both articles can be found on my website http://www.kellyanncarpentier.com . I was invited to contribute to the articles by a LinkedIn connection that was impressed by the answers that I was giving in the Q&A section of the LinkedIn site. You will notice that I have not given my site attention in quite some time. I look forward to "getting back into the swing of things" and hopefully using this contest as a spring board for that.
On my site I discuss (or plan to discuss) the following topics: Blogging, Branding, Entrepreneurialism, Global thinking, Globalization, Leadership, LinkedIn, Networking, Online Reputation Management, Organizational Tools, Search Engine Optimization, and Twitter.
I encourage your discussions, questions, and comments. You can view it all at http://www.kellyanncarpentier.com .
All the best,
Kelly Ann

- What is your area of expertise in social media and/or marketing. How long have you been practicing?
My area of expertise in social media is inspiring people to debate and act around causes in which I believe, whether through social networking sites, through my blogs for the Huffington Post and Americans for the Arts' Arts BLOG, or via YouTube. During the Obama campaign, Arianna Huffington invited me to blog for her. I've continued to do so since October of last year, when I began with the aspirational piece, "President Obama's Arts."
- What is your best online accomplishments in blogging?
My best online accomplishment in blogging, so far, is my two-part Huffington Post piece, entitled, "Why Arts Education is a Matter of Social Justice and Why it will Save the World," which was cited in the California State Senate's Creative Industries Revitalization Act hearings, linked on arts and education advocacy sites around the country, and which provoked the Yale School of Music to invite me to deliver the keynote address at their biennial Music Educators' Symposium.
Other blogging highlights include the lively debate sparked in the comment section of my Huffington Post blog called, "Is there Method to this Rick Warren Madness"; and recently on the Arts BLOG, my piece "El Sistema in L.A." became the most popular post in the Sept. 21-25 blogging salon about arts education.
- How did you achieve your best result? Explain.
As a working actress, I was lucky enough to receive a healthy run of residual checks that I viewed as my salary to visit innovators in arts education in different parts of the country, meet with the highest echelons of cultural and educational policy in the federal government, using my personal experience volunteering with at-risk youth through the arts and research about what movements were cropping up around the world in the field, all of which coalesced into a piece that seemed to write itself, "Why Arts Education is a Matter of Social Justice and Why it will Save the World," Parts I and II. The piece was re-published extensively on different sites.
- What topics would you be writing about for the contest?
Movements are afoot all over the country, marrying the arts and education to effect serious social change. 3 articles I’d like to write are:
1. A piece about the Silverlake Conservatory of Music in Los Angeles, founded by Red Hot Chili Pepper bassist, Flea. Flea has already offered me an interview.
2. The education and emergence of Soulfege, a groundbreaking band headed by Oprah’s new protégée, musician, activist, speaker, social entrepreneur and political personality, Derrick Ashong (www.derrickashong.com), who is starting a movement called Take Back the Mic that seeks create a replicable network of youth empowerment programs around the country, using the arts as one touchstone.
3. The Harmony Project in Los Angeles offers free musical instruments and top-notch instruction to LA’s poorest students and teams up with the LA Philharmonic’s wunderkind, Gustavo Dudamel, to support the Youth Orchestra LA, based on Venezuela’s revolutionary music education program, El Sistema. I have established strong ties with the Harmony Project, the LA Phil and other El Sistema offshoots in the area.
I also have many other story ideas, if you would prefer another direction.
- Links to past blogs or content and a personal profile.
My Huffington Post pieces are all linked on my bio page: www. huffingtonpost.com/lucia-brawley
My AftA Arts BLOG pieces are available on my bio page there, as well: http://blog.artsusa.org/author/lucia-brawley/

I am a little different. I have been involved in social media for many years as a cartoonist and animator. I have only been blogging for about 3 months.
My style of communication is combination of text and drawings, much like the 25 sketchbooks I have filled over the years. The subject of my blog is the creation of my latest iPhone app, "Beat The Boss". It is six months in development and is about to be submitted to Apple.
I was looking for a marketing genius to show me past apps they had promoted as well as how that success was attained. I basically came up empty. I decided to chronicle the steps of my own entrepreneurial pursuit for success in the iPhone market.
My best accomplishment and best result are both tied to my blog. I do my best work drawing from the right side of my brain. My content is all very spontaneous both in text and visual appeal.

Well hello everyone! My name is Sam Diener. I call myself the "Founder and Creative Strategist" behind "Stuff for Success..."
- What is your area of expertise in social media and/or marketing. How long have you been practicing?
Oh man, you really want to know the real answer to this. It will surprise you. Um. I have been practicing for four months. WOW!!!! What a lot of experience. But don't so quickly judge. Its the execution, not how much experience you have!
- What is your best online accomplishments in blogging?
I would have to say it has to float between getting article shout outs from colleagues with over 50k followers, writing guest posts for major syndicated blogs, and reaching over 20,000 people on just my own page in four months.
- How did you achieve your best result? Explain.
I reached my results by realizing that it's who you know, and not what you know. It's about networking and building relationships, AND writing good content.
- What topics would you be writing about for the contest?
Oh --- so you want to know now..... but then I won't be able to suprise you all....
Okay fine, fine. I will hint.
1. Bagging Elephants. Yes, I am serious.
2. Compensating for Small Size.. Once again, I am serious.

Area of expertise in social media and/or marketing (How long practicing?) -
I've been studying social media marketing over the last three years, taking graduate courses and blogging about it for 93 days - one post each day.
- What is your best online accomplishments in blogging?
I've re-connected to my roots as a journalist, writing many articles - I'm particularly proud of the "Day 46" post to my blog, "Back to School - Again! - a blog for students that focuses on how to use social media.
- How did you achieve your best result? I conducted two independent studies as a grad student at Murray State University which provided insights into the way people/consumers are actually using social media today. I will graduate in December with a master's degree in mass communications, and hope to expand my blogging effort, as well as publish my articles in academic journals.
I have been writing for and to non-traditional college students. In the current economy, going back to school is one way many people are trying to get back to work, and the prospect of college can be daunting to anyone who's been away from the campus environment for any length of time. I hope my blog articles have helped others to achieve their highest potential.
- What topics would you be writing about for the contest?
The issues facing today's non-traditional college students, and anyone who may be outside the job market right now. I'm writing about how social media marketing can be used to market an individual, a new venture, or a corporation someone already works for. I've written several papers about the new "Always On" media environment and the Groundswell which is taking place in social media. I hope to write more about this, including "How To" stories that will help others navigate the confusing social media environment, especially those coming to it later in the game.

That's my blog! While I am somewhat new to the blogosphere, I'm no stranger to communications. I was a VP with a successful newsletter publishing house throughout the 1980s, owned a full-service ad agency in the 1990s, and served as Marketing Director for a national homebuilder for 8 years during that same period. I've been an award winning advertising creative director, a columnist/film critic, book editor, and small business owner as well.
My recent foray into higher education has re-energized me with a desire to teach and share all that the real world experiences of 25 years has taught me ...with the next generation of superstars.
I hope that my blog will motivate people to use social media wisely, and possibly, to consider going back to school themselves.
I am 50 years young, single with no children, and currently reside in Murray, KY, where I blog daily and provide an affordable online editing service for student papers, projects and manuscripts. I also provide professional copy editing services through ETC, Inc., (Elizabeth Thomas Creative).

- What is your area of expertise in social media and/or marketing. How long have you been practicing? I have recently been crowned the master of social networking here at GPI prototype. I haven’t been practicing long, about 3 years of actual networking via social media sites, however, I have been doing a lot with forums, blogs and search engine optimization utilizing those applications before myspace, facebook and twitter became so large in the social media network.
- What is your best online accomplishments in blogging? I recently wrote a few articles on our capabilities focusing on our core capabilities at GPI Prototype, one of which being DMLS (Direct Metal Laser Sintering) my website traffic increased by 245 average visitors each week. I know that doesn’t seem like a lot, this is a brand new website that was only averaging 94 visitors a week.
- How did you achieve your best result? I did a google blog, then went to my industry specific forums and their blogs posting my blog link, after I did that I repeatedly posted the link on Twitter, Facebook and Myspace. I then wrote a discussion on linkedin about social media and included my link to my blog which also had reciprocal links to my twitter, myspace and facebook accounts. I also used digg and squidoo to blog about my DMLS technology that also linked to my DMLS google blog.
- What topics would you be writing about for the contest? I would write about product development and the stages of taking a new product from cradle to grave. A lot of people are interested in how for instance a toaster was made, who came up with the idea and what stages does it take to get that product into production.
